Michael and Mark’s Day - The Grand Hotel Tynemouth Wedding photography

Updated: Nov 19, 2023

Wedding Photography at The Grand Hotel Tynemouth

Two of the best things about being an affordable Newcastle wedding photographer, are getting to meet great couples like Michael and Mark and getting to capture wedding photography at The Grand Hotel Tynemouth. Their summer wedding was a joy to capture from start to finish.

Michael and Mark both live in Western Australia these days, Michael is a local lad and Mark originates from Wales. Their guests travelled from Australia, Wales, Manchester, Bristol the North East and Scotland for the wedding. So, it was great that they all got to visit the charming coastal town of Tynemouth and enjoy a warm Geordie welcome from Mark’s family and friends at home.

The Grand Hotel Tynemouth is a historically rich Grade II listed building and iconic Northeast wedding venue that overlooks award-winning Longsands Beach. Built in 1872, it has retained all its Victorian charm alongside all the luxury you would expect from a multi-award-winning wedding venue. When I capture wedding photography at The Grand Hotel Tynemouth, I love getting images of their majestic staircase. And for the couple’s photoshoot, we can be on the beach in seconds!

On the day, I got to The Grand Hotel Tynemouth nice and early so I could get some morning images of the wedding. Michael and Mark were getting ready together in one of The Grand Hotel’s beautiful suites. The guys were really chilled and in good form and I got some great images. Michael wore a white tux with a black shirt, and Mark wore a black tux with a white shirt. Both wore pink ties and, as a nod to absent family members, had pictures of their dogs on their socks.

Once ready, we headed out for a mini photoshoot around Tynemouth with their best men. These guys were all so easy to work with and I got some images that I know Michael and Mark are thrilled with.

Now, it’s always nice to meet up and work with other professionals in the wedding industry, and this is always the case when I work with the very talented Adam Chetter who was there capturing the wedding film.

The wedding ceremony was held in The Grand Hotel’s elegant Pearl Room. This light room

has period features including a chandeliered ceiling and an original fireplace which Michael and Mark stood in front of to say their vows. The room had been dressed exquisitely with Blossom Trees hired from Blossom Tree Hire Co and was decorated with beautiful flowers that were the clever creation of local florist Jules Fleur.

After a lovely ceremony, there was a fun confetti moment on the steps at the front of the Grand Hotel that I captured perfectly. Here, take a look!

I then took some images of the wedding party out the front of the hotel, and across the road overlooking the beach.

The wedding reception was held in The Grand Hotel’s Orchid Suite. Situated on the first floor, it enjoys breathtaking coastal views. It had been decorated beautifully. There followed a delicious wedding breakfast followed by the speeches that were hilarious and really set a fun and playful tone for the party to come.

Evening celebrations started with the cutting of a delicious looking wedding cake. The first dance was especially romantic as was performed live by singer song writer John Adams who sang ‘Behind Closed Doors’. It was a really sweet moment. The party had now officially started which was just as well as Michael and Mark’s guests were up for it and it wasn’t long before the dancefloor was full.

Before taking my leave, I wanted the perfect closing image. So, I quickly whisked Michael and Mark away for a couple of minutes and got some photos of them on the windows sills by the iconic spiral staircase. Here, take a look!

I love these images as they’re so natural and were the perfect ones to close the story of Michael and Mark’s day.

A fantastically fun wedding for a fantastically fun couple at a simply stunning North East wedding venue. Congratulations to Michael and Mark for getting married and creating such an amazing day for yourselves. I hope my images will enable you to relive it again and again for many years to come. And as my full day coverage package gives Michael and Mark full copyright to print, reproduce and distribute their images as they wish. The photos can be enjoyed any way they wish without restrictions or fear of additional costs.

I’ll leave the last words to Michael and Mark. Here’s what they had to say about me.

“Getting the right photographer for your wedding is obviously one of the most important jobs when planning a wedding, and being in Australia, I knew I’d have to heavily rely on recommendations because I would not be able to meet face to face before the wedding. Tom came highly recommended and let me say, he did not disappoint. He was a true professional and got the best out of us both, even though we are not naturally confident people. He importantly listened to what we wanted, gave us feedback where he felt improvements could be made and he really took command of the day, to ensure he delivered the photos we wanted. He never stopped the whole day and even at the end of the day, instead of wanting to go home, he was pushing for some more shots to perfect the collection. His work was delivered in a timely manner and the results are amazing. Would I recommend Tom to you, 100%. He exceeded our expectations and was amazing!”
