Being a wedding photographer is a great job and an absolute honor and privilege to be at the heart of such a special day, sharing and capturing every moment from start to finish with two people who are clearly deeply in love with each other and committing to spend their lives together.
When I arrived at Matfen Hall the wedding preparations were in full swing, from hair and makeup in the bridal suite to the venue staff laying out chairs, tables, flowers, candles and attending to all the finer details that make the day so special.
The magnificent Matfen Hall country estate boasts over 20 years of hosting wonderful weddings and in that time, they have become one of the most sought-after venues for happy couples to begin their married life together.
Nestled in the heart of stunning Northumberland, the unparalleled surroundings provide romantic scenery for your special day, while their personal service specialises in turning your dream wedding into a reality.
From the grandeur of the Great Hall to the beauty of Le Jardin Hollandaise, you will have no shortage of remarkable backdrops to choose from for your ceremony. The magnificent oak staircase is ideal for sweeping down and providing guests with a breathtaking moment, while a selection of local churches offers something for those searching for a more traditional ceremony.
Their unequalled paradise presents a choice of exceptional spaces for loved ones to celebrate their nuptials. The Morning Room brings a regal atmosphere to proceedings and the Cloisters give guests the elegant space to dance the night away while, for more intimate celebrations, the Needham Bar creates an air of elegance that will live long in the memory.
Matfen Hall has some of the best backdrops for wedding photography of any of the wedding venues in the North East or Newcastle. Photographing this gorgeous couple was fun, rewarding and emotional.
These are the very kind words of thanks I received from Lauren after the wedding, these are the words that make my job so special and keep me motivated.
"Feeling comfortable on our wedding day was of paramount importance to us. Having scrolled endlessly through reviews and galleries, we decided to book Tom in 2018. Fast forward 4 years, and we finally got our wedding day. Tom was so easy to communicate with, always responding promptly and made changing over our date due to covid both stress and hassle free.
When we finally met just a few weeks before our 4th August wedding day, it was immediately apparent that we had made a good choice in our wedding photographer. Tom was extremely friendly yet professional and made us both feel instantly comfortable. We talked through what we wanted from our photos and how the day would work and left feeling confident we would end up with some brilliant picture memories. We weren’t wrong!
On the day, Tom arrived early to scout the venue and ensure that he didn’t miss any of the key moments from the pre wedding preparations. For vast amounts of the time, we didn’t even know he was there - exactly what we had asked for! Tom pointed us in the direction of perfect settings and timings for lighting to create beautiful pictures but there was never any pressure. If we were busy with our guests or enjoying certain moments, he made us feel totally comfortable in deciding when the right time was for our pictures. Tom worked with our master of ceremonies to ensure we were always where we needed to be so that the day could run entirely smoothly.
He stayed throughout the day and was only too happy to stay well into the evening in order to ensure each element of the venue (various rooms) could be captured.
To top it all off, Tom provided us with a collage on the day to share with friends and family and we received all of our edited photos within less than 2 weeks - amazing! Our final images are incredible."
The evening shots were some of my favourites, the setting sun was a warm glow, and both the bride and groom were keen to make the most of the moment.
The evening celebrations were an absolute blast, dancing and fun all night long and even a chance to quickly nip outside for a romantic last picture of the night!!
